772 Campaign LetterDear 772er,We Made It! Thank you all! As I posted, today is the time we wrap up our $77.2 campaign. After two month work with you, we accumulated pledges up to $4225.96 to the proposed 772 Fund. Total of 52 people participated (include people outside the USA). That is 80% of 772 community (65 people)! In the USA (plus Hong Kong), we have 38 active email addresses. Among them 29 people pledged, that's 76.3%! According to Xiaoou, the Chair of the USTCAF, we made the record not only on the participate percentage, but also in the amount of single event Class fundraising. Do you still remember in my first email call for the $77.2 campaign? I said "I simply believe 772 is the best". You proved it! During the campaign, I was strongly supported by many of our 772ers not only by encouraging but also by their passionate concern of USTC. Many people made some very constructive suggestions to bring the old glory of USTC back, some people offered good points on solving the students' financial difficulties. All these suggestions will be very valuable to USTC and I will pass them to USTC promptly. By now 772 is ranked number 3 in term of total donation $5030.96 (there were $805 previous donations by Xuesheng, $225, Jiang Hua, $225, Lei Ming, $125, Yan Li, $100, Kelan, $70, and Huilong, $60. Li Ming's donation of $240 was listed in his original department, 776), behind 776, $13642 and 771, $5930. We are a small class with 60 some people, I am really proud that we stand as #3 in total amount donation. To my knowledge, 776 is one of the biggest classes in 77, and in their contribution, nearly $10,000 was from Wang Wejia alone. (This was not shown on the web page, instead, they listed average to a 776 class). As you know, Wang Weijia has a successful business, his internet wireless accessing product is the benchmark of many countries. I hope one day one of our 772ers will have the capability to do the same. By the way, this $77.2 campaign was carried only through email, I didn't make any phone call except to a pre-big-shot. I wish his current business trip was very successful resulting some signed contracts, which might boost our 772 Fund. Although we are going to conclude this campaign today, your pledge is still welcome today, tomorrow, and forever. The USTCAF is always there, the 772 Fund is always there, you are certainly always encouraged to contribute in any kind and at any time. ... ... Let's all work for a better USTC! Together, We Make A Difference!

A letter to a GB memberXiaoou,I promised you to write a summary after the conclusion of the $77.2 campaign. (By the way, you asked about release the $77.2 campaign information to promote class campaigns. I don't have any objection, just do what ever you think helps.) The purpose of the campaign was very straight forward, to promote the Goodwill Fund, to promote USTCAF, and for a better USTC. I admire all you guys at USTCAF and your work for the past few years to promote USTC. Although I can see that there are some (major) disadvantages of our USTC in competing with other two schools in China, I believe there is no school in China has its alumni competitive to the devotion and passion of our fellow USTCers. This is the treasure of USTC! Same as all of you, my passion to USTC is ever stronger, especially after we experienced her old glory and witnessed her current challenge. I was excited about many great plans (such as relocation of the campus, set up some colleges or divisions in geometrically advanced cities). However, it was too far for me. As a small potato, I thought I might do something insignificant but within my ability. Thus, I called the $77.2 campaign among the 772ers. I expressed in my campaign letter that the objective of the campaign was to get as many people involved as possible. One person can do a little, a group people can do more, and a whole group of people can do anything! My campaign slogan was "Let's All Work For A Better USTC!" I also borrowed the slogan of USTCAF, "Together, We Make A Difference!" I sent the first email to call the campaign on 8/16, and concluded the campaign on 10/16. By 10/17/99, pledges accumulated was $4525.96 (some pledges came after the conclusion). Total of 54 people participated. That is 83% of 772 community (65 people)! In the USA (plus Hong Kong), we have 38 active email addresses. Among them 31 people pledged, that's 82%! I admit that the campaign was very time consuming and sometimes required you sleepless, especially when you worked on some deadline project at work. From the campaign, I realized how hard you guys worked on the big USTCAF fundraising. On the other hand, when I worked on this campaign, I felt I was physically in Building 154 at USTC, I felt I was with my old classmates at those old days. It was really enjoyable! Well, I feel there are a lot need to be written in this summary, however, I enclosed the first campaign letter and the wrap-up letter of the $77.2 Fundraising instead. I think those may serve better than another summary, and of course, save me a lot of time. Best Regards!
