I served on USTC-SV AA board since 2004 and also served as the president of USTC-SV AA in 2007. Being on the AFGB, I witnessed two golden years in the AF's history.
Year 2008 is a very special year for all USTCers. Like all other AF members, I am eager to see how another record will be mounted. With AF members' so much passion and dedication, I am confident that the momentum we built will last and grow even much stronger this year regardless of economy situation. If elected, I will keep focusing on reaching AF's fund-raising goal and promoting alumni networking and our interaction with USTC.

USTCers have distinct character that is we always care about our Alma Mater and worry about her future. As an alumnus, I would like to contribute my little effort to do something for USTC. I did not actively participate in AF affairs in the past few years. But I have closely tracked and was encouraged by the immense progress that the AFGB has been making in terms of fund raising. I also see the many challenges that AF will face as it continues to grow. There are many areas that we can improve and AF needs more volunteers who can contribute their time and experience. I want to get involved again and in my capacity as a GB member, injecting new ideas on how to take the AF to the next level.

I got my B.S. degree in USTC in 1998 and
came to State University of New York at Stony Brook,
where I got my two master's degrees in both
Chemistry and Computer Science. in 2001, as a
systems analyst, I joined Renaissance Tech. LLC,
which becomes into a top-one hedgefund recently.
Right After I graduated from USTC I started to
support USTCers. Through bing-tang laoshi (a
famous teacher who was active in USTC's BBS) I
got my first one-on-one student, who now
is a Ph.D. student in Cal. Tech. From 2005
and on I donated to USTCAF regularly, and wish
to take part in more activities in it.
Why people elect me:
1. I am familiar with financial markets and
as an analyst in a famous hedgefund I
have broad and strong connections with USTCs in
wall street.
2. I have strong ability to set up relationships
with people and I am very energetic and efficient
to get things done well. And with so many years go
on and I am already in my early 30's, I am very mature
to know what to do and what should not be done.
3. As a C.S. master I also know web-design,
programming
though in my work I'm more concerned with stock
and futures' data.
4. I am easy to impress people. -- I was
never a member in USTC students' club, but I was
often thought to be one because I was so active.
And when in Stony brook (my graduate study place)
people even thought I was a chairman though I actually
seldom took part in official activities.
5. The most important reason, I have a very sincere
heart, to support USTC to be the best university in
China.

I proudly strived to accomplish my undergraduate education in pure mathematics at USTC during 1985-1990, also a critical time for my emotional and spiritual growth. I managed to become a Ph. D. candidate in Number Theory at Ohio State University. Less a dissertation, I graduated with a Master degree in 1997. I had since worked for about a dozen US companies of start-up nature, pursuing my wealth dream. For last a few years, I have been teaching Mathematics to college students at Los Angeles area, including at California State University.
"Going into the 14th year of operation, USTCAF will carry last two years' donation record setting momentum, into the "grassroot year" 2008 and beyond. The likely scenario of upcoming USTC big-50 anniversary amid a sluggish world economy presents a challenge, yet also a unique opportunity, for our alumni community to unleash a unified and unfaltered passion of love to our alma mater, as well as our courage/wisdom in bending together to withstand the shifting currents of economic uncertainty.
During the 2007 term as GB member, I have joined the effort in strengthening board communication/teamwork and in rallying alumni's spirit of giving and pride of community. I hope to stay on with the board for a second term to further contribute my time and effort, and I look forward to your support -- you are as important as I am for the historic march toward a world-class USTC not far out of sight. Show me your vote, or better, show AF your money :)"

I worked for the AF from 2001 to 2004, and also had the honor to serve as
the Chair in 2002. I later left due to personal reasons, but have been
following AF's progress closely through the years.
After being both a Governing Board insider and an observer for quite a while
respectively, I think I now have better understanding of the strength and
limitation of the AF, as well as the challenge and opportunities the AF is
facing, than a few years ago when I was working in the GB. Owing to the
dedication of the recent several GBs, AF has seen tremendous growth in these
years. I hope my involvement and contribution can help propel the AF to the
next level.

I was elected as a governing board member in 2007 election. Besides doing the common duty in the board, my work mainly focus on the Goodwill program. I managed the database of Goodwill awards, coordinated with USTCAF, USTC student office, Goodwill awardees and our generous donors. It has been my great pleasure to work together with other board members. Before serving on the USTCAF board, I had been the president of USTC Alumni Association in Maryland for two years since 2004.
My one year service in the AF GB makes me aware that there are still a lot of things need to be done. I am willing to take my responsibility and do whatever I can for USTCAF. If re-elected, I will continue to concentrate on the Goodwill program and try my best to make it benefit more USTC students.

Since the very early days of the AF, I've been a strong believer of its mission and charter. As such, I served a number of GB terms in in our early years, contributed the first corporate matching fund (which approximately equaled our fund size at the time), set up the AF resolution process and wrote the first couple of resolutions myself. I had also been providing technical infrastructure for various AF related web site and other activities.
I had not been playing an active enough role in AF and the GB for a number of years now, and would like for you to support me in coming back to the GB to serve the 2008 term. Hopefully with my firm belief in AF charter and experience in handling complex issues I can help make a difference. A definitive promise I can make is that I will draft and sponsor additional resolutions that will take the AF to the next level of maturity.

If elected to USTCAF board, I'd like to push for the following initiatives:
1. Work toward one united, single ustc alumni foundation with one objective
- to help ustc to be the first class university that provides first class
education in china. The other things will take care themselves.
2. Strategically use ustc alumi foundation's fund for the biggest impact.
Including promoting keda's public reputation, sponsoring key positions
(professorship, PR role etc)in keda. I believe this will help the fund
raising efforts for the alumni foundation.
3. Improve influence on keda's and chinese science academy's leaderships by
leveraging existing and building new relationships and communication
channels.
I've been on the Board of USTC Wall Street Alumni Association (later
USTC Alumni Association of Greater New York) since
1995 and was the President for many years.
4. And the last but not the least, challenge all ustc alumni: "ask what YOU
can do for ustc".
