  Dear Fellow USTCers,
   
  *** Professor Ruan Passed Away ***
  On April 21 2007, Professor Ruan Tunan passed away at 
  age 72 in Hefei. It was a great loss to USTC because he 
  was not only an accomplished scientific researcher but 
  also a respected educator. He was an advisor, a friend, 
  a role model to many USTCers especially among alumni 
  of the Modern Physics Department. 
   
  *** Call for Ruan Tunan Memorial Fund ***       
  Professor Ruan dedicated his lifetime to the development   
  of USTC, his dedication and contribution should be 
  remembered. We, the undersigned Modern Physics

  Department alumni, call for establishing the Ruan Tunan
  Memorial Fund to preserve his legacy of lifetime dedication 
  to excellence.
   
  *** Mission Statement ***
  The mission of Ruan Tunan Memorial Fund is to promote
  dedication to excellence among USTC faculty members
  by offering various awards named after Professor Ruan.
  It will be a subfund managed by the USTC Alumni Foundation
  (http://ustcaf.org) -- a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to 
  promoting the prestige of USTC and excellence of its people.
   
  *** $10K Matching Fund ***
  Dr. Zhang Zili(814)  has generously offered to match donation
  made to the Ruan Tunan Memorial Fund before 5/31/2007
  for up to $10K. Your donation in any amount will be making a
  difference in this noble cause. It will double the impact if
  you make the 5/31/2007 deadline.
