---1995 to 2004, 10 years of USTCAF ---
Dear USTC Alumni:
Today, you may be in Wall Street enjoying your
financial success; today, you may be in Silicon Valley
fulfilling your dream to excel in high tech and
entrepreneurship; today, you may be carrying out your
mission for a better future of human being by doing
research and teaching in universities across the
world~E
Yesterday, these were the dreams you carried to USTC
for the best education and scientific training in
China. Yesterday, these were the dreams of all of you,
the young, talented and ambitious students packed in
the overnight classrooms in USTC, inspired by the
success of the previous generation of USTCers.
Today, in USTC, when they are all gifted and young,
the students are pursuing the same dreams of a bright
future in the world. Today, would you please lend a
hand to help them fulfill these dreams and continue on
the similar paths to success as you did?
You have made a significant difference when you care.
Since the founding of USTCAF in 1995, thousands of
USTC alumni and friends have donated to USTCAF. USTCAF
is now only $60k away from reaching the milestone of
HALF MILLION dollars donation from alumni. In the
past 10 years, with the help of USTC alumni, USTC
Alumni Foundation has helped several hundred students
and young faculties to pursue their dreams. In the
past 10 years, USTC alumni have helped to attract top
talents to USTC to ensure USTC continues to hold on to
its best value: its people. In the past ten years,
USTC alumni have ensured that every student, no matter
rich or poor, are entitled to receive the best
education from USTC.
It took three generations of USTCers to build USTC
into a top university in China. It will take all of
us, USTC alumni, to ensure USTC will continue to be
THE unique university for the gifted and young
students in China, to fulfill their dreams of a bright
future.
Tomorrow, in 2008, Beijing is going to celebrate the
1st ever Olympic games to be hold in China. Tomorrow,
in 2008, USTC is going to celebrate its 50th
anniversary. With your help, USTC can march towards
its 50th anniversary and beyond with more pride and
prestige. With your help, new generations of gifted
and young alumni will be able to follow your path to
success and continue to build a better USTC, and to
continue to enjoy the pride and prestige of belonging
to the big family of USTC alumni.

FAQs regarding USTCAF and its programs with USTC.
Q: What kind of donations does USTCAF accept?
A: USTCAF accepts donations in the following
categories
1) Cash donations in the forms of Check, Paypal/Credit
Card, and stock donations.
2) Equipment and Non-cash capital donations, which
will be transferred to USTC. We also would encourage
you to have your research equipment/funding donations
to USTC to go through USTCAF in order to realize the
tax-deduction benefits.
When you make the donation, you can specify the funds
to be general-purpose funds, or you can specify
portions of the funds to be in one of the sub-funds.
Q: How do I make donations to USTCAF?
A: Please go to the USTCAF web page at

Q: How are the donations being used by USTCAF?
A: USTCAF have currently the following active programs
with USTC
1) Goodwill Sponsorship Scholarship (typically 20 to
50 students per year, a few hundred dollars/student,
for students that need financial help).
2) Outstanding New Student Award (typically around 20
to 50 students per year, for the outstanding new
students in order to attract top talents to USTC. High
school scholarship awards set up by alumni are also a
subcategory of this award)
3) Teaching Excellence Award (new program starting
this year to award the best teachers)
4) Young Faculty Career Award (typically about 4
awards/year, a few thousand dollars per award for the
young faculties to help them kick-start their
careers).
5) Equipment and Non-Cash Capital donations (new
program starting this year to help facilitate
cooperation with USTC).
The awardees are selected jointly by USTCAF and USTC,
based on criteria set by AF board and the sub-fund
managers.
Q: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes, USTCAF is a 501 (c) not-for-profit
organization. All your donations to USTCAF are tax
deductible.
Q: Will my company match my donation to USTCAF?
A: A lot of companies have gift-matching program for
donations made to not-for-profit organizations, which
can match part of or your entire donation to USTCAF.
Some company also has volunteering work matching
funds, which will donate certain amount of money to
the charity organization if you have contributed
certain amount of volunteer work to the charity
organization.
Q: What~Rs the minimum amount of donation I need to
make when donate to USTCAF?
A: There is no minimum amount of donation
requirements. USTCAF recognizes that different people
may have different financial strength. Your
participation is the most important factor to make
USTCAF successful in helping USTC. Any amount of
donation is welcomed.
Q: I would also like to join the volunteer works of
USTCAF; in what ways can I help?
A: USTCAF is a volunteer organization, governed by the
USTCAF governing board. All alumni are welcomed to
join the volunteer work of USTCAF. Please contact
afgb@ustcaf.org if you would like to help. AF also
holds annual election at the beginning of each year to
select a governing board consisting of at least 10
board members to oversee AF~Rs daily operations and to
ensure all the operations follow AF bylaws. All alumni
that have become AF member for more than 6 months are
welcomed to be candidates for the board election.
Alumni and friends that have ever donated to USTCAF
will automatically become AF members.
